Clinical research
Clinical research in critical care is a vital part of our activity. This patient-oriented research takes place in the intensive care units.
All of the medical staff are devoted to these efforts. The Trial Unit consists of a full time coordinator and a team of study nurses, who serve to facilitate protocol submission for IRB evaluation, data management of ongoing trials, study contract and follow up of patients involved in ongoing clinical trials.
Clinical research in critical care is very active and we have performed numerous trials involving intensive care unit patients. Areas of investigation of critical illness include severe sepsis and septic shock, antibiotic and antifungal treatment for different types of infection, sedation of mechanically ventilated patients, increased intracranial pressure, acute on chronic liver failure and sedation.
